Andrew Shue

Paternal 11th cousin

Andrew Shue – My Celebrity Cousin from Melrose Place

Best known for his role as Billy Campbell on the hit 1990s TV series Melrose Place (1992–1999), actor Andrew Shue is actually my distant cousin—we share common ancestors through our 10x great-grandparents, Henry Burt and Eulalia Marche.

Our Shared Family Roots

My discovery of Andrew as a relative came during research on my paternal family line. I found that my 10th great-grandparents, Henry Burt and Eulalia Marche, were well-documented colonial ancestors. Through their extensive lineage, I learned that several well-known individuals, including Andrew Shue and his sister, actress Elisabeth Shue, also descend from the Burt family via their maternal line.

Remembering Melrose Place

I first knew of Andrew Shue from his role on Melrose Place, a show I followed from its debut episode to the finale. Often described as a 'guilty pleasure' of the 1990s, Melrose Place was a pop culture phenomenon—and Andrew’s character, Billy Campbell, played a key role in many of the show’s major plot lines.

Beyond Acting: Soccer & Startups

Few people know that Andrew was also a talented professional soccer player. While starring on Melrose Place, he played for the Los Angeles Galaxy in Major League Soccer, successfully juggling both careers.

After stepping away from television, Andrew transitioned into entrepreneurship. He co-founded two major digital platforms:

  • DoSomething.org – A nonprofit aimed at empowering young people to create social change.

  • CafeMom – A popular website and community for mothers.

He also co-hosts the web series Mad Life, alongside comedian Chuck Nice and his mother-in-law, Joanie Robach.

Personal Life

Andrew Shue has been married twice:

  • Jennifer Hageney (1994–2008) – Together, they have three sons: Nate (born 1997), Aidan (1999), and Wyatt (2004).

  • Amy Robach (married in 2010) – A journalist and former co-anchor of the Today Show, Amy is currently a correspondent with ABC News.

Final Thoughts

It's always fun to discover a family connection to someone in the public eye. Andrew Shue is yet another celebrity cousin on my paternal side, and learning about his life beyond Melrose Place has made the connection all the more interesting.
